Liberated String Piecing

This is my Liberated String Pieced baby quilt. This is my first project after reading Gwen Marston’s book. It was oh so easy and a lot of fun. I had collected 30’s prints for awhile. Each year I make my daughter Mariah a quilt and some of the earlier ones were done in these prints, mainly because she likes bright quilts.

I had a bunch left over and knew I would probably never use them so this was a good project for them. I had fun doing this and can see more liberated string pieced quilts in my future!

Oh my gosh Laura! This quilt is wonderful! I love the colors! Now that I see this it would make a great baby quilt in a smaller version! And I love how your strings are different directions! Now I have to dig that book out AGAIN and look at her directions!

what a sweet baby quilt! Looks like fun! I am in the middle of a crumb quilt based on Gwen's Liberated String Quilts. Gwen is so inspiring, isn't she?

I'm doing the same thing now. After making my big 30's quilt I have lots left over and I won't use these again with other prints so I am making a medium size extra quilt with the left over prints.

Great string quilt!

Great quilt. I love the 30's prints, so bright and cheerful. Boy are you quick - didn't you just buy that book - and it looks like it is completely finished - bound and quilted. Impressive. I gotta get me that book! It must be inspirational.

Pam in Canada - just back from 2 weeks in Arizona and area.

This is really a fun quilt Laura! I see several of the same repro's I have used...did you manage to get them all used up? I'm still working on finishing off my pile of FQ's.

That's cute. I'm usually not a fan of string quilts but I really like the lattice combined with the strings!

That turned out nice! I like all the colors you've used, and the sashing adds a lot. :)

Oh it's marvelous, bright and happy. I bet it's wonderful to look at up close with all the different conversation prints.
